Golden Thread Gallery are delighted to share Alison Lowry’s new exhibition The Bystander Effect in the Project Space. The culmination of two years of research, The Bystander Effect examines the role that we, as a society, had in allowing an ‘architecture of containment’ to develop in Northern Ireland; the physical infrastructure and systems used to incarcerate women and children in eighteenth and nineteenth century Ireland, including Industrial Schools, Children’s Homes, Mother and Baby Institutions and Magdalene Laundries.
The Ireland at Venice 2022 Curatorial Team, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, will present Niamh O’Malley’s Gather at the Irish Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale in 2022. Golden Thread Gallery is delighted to be a partner gallery of this project, and will host Gather in Belfast in 2023 as part of the Ireland at Venice 2022 National Tour.
Golden Thread Gallery is delighted to be premiering the installation of Suzanne Lacy’s Across and In-Between in the summer of 2021, presented in association with Ulster University. Co-commissioned and presented as a work-in-progress for the closing season of 14-18 NOW and the Belfast International Arts Festival; the project amplified the voices and experiences of border residents during Brexit negotiations through words, imagery, sound and performance, providing them an opportunity to reclaim the landscape around them.
