Support Our Work

Golden Thread Gallery is a small organisation that punches above its weight! We believe that art is for everyone and should be as accessible as possible. That’s why entry to all our exhibitions, events, artist talks and family art workshops is always free of charge.

But did you know that we are a registered charity? When you make a donation to us, your generosity helps us to continue:

SUPPORTING NORTHERN IRISH ARTISTS

We provide hours of one-to-one mentoring and advice to artists here every year. We also provide vital financial support by commissioning artists to create new online content such as our GTG Artists Present series and workshops. We showcase emerging artists in Project Space exhibitions and in online exhibitions designed to help them sell their work, like LOVE ART BUY ART. And this year we launched our Golden Thread Gallery Mentoring & Exhibition Award, presented to a University of Ulster School of Art Graduate based on their MFA work and show.

BRINGING VISUAL ART TO ALL COMMUNITIES

We offer free arts outreach and education projects to communities across Northern Ireland. We have delivered projects to individuals of all ages, abilities and ethnicities, addressing issues of Northern Ireland’s past and its future. Through our outreach work we build skills and connections, empower groups to think in new ways through art, and provide creative tools to tackle complex issues.

Groups we’ve worked with include NICRAS, Brain Injury Matters, Lower Shankill Community Association, North Belfast Interface Network, Kilcooley Women’s Centre, Newhill Ladybirds Groups, Glenbank Community Garden, New Lodge Serenity Club. We’ve delivered Older People programmes across Belfast, North Down & Ards and Antrim Coast & Glens Council area, including special projects for people with dementia.

INSPIRING YOUNG ARTISTS

We love inspiring and being inspired by the next generation of creative talent! We provide free exhibition tours and art workshops for schools and community groups. Our free family workshops take place in the Gallery on the first and third Saturday of every month, and we provide all the art materials needed, as well as snacks, drinks, and fun art activities and cool new skills to try. Young visitors can also have their artwork displayed in our Junior Gallery and pick up a free copy of our award-winning Junior Gallery Newsletter.

PUTTING ART ONLINE

Over lockdown we shared hours of free non-ticketed online art events and activities, virtual exhibition tours and created a brand-new Art & Learning page on our website. We paid local artists to create inspiring new art workshops for all ages and abilities, to make films about their work and to design virtual exhibition tours – all permanently available on our website for everyone to enjoy!
