Our free Saturday art workshops for families are back from August! Workshops will take place in the gallery on the first and third Saturdays of every month, with new Covid-19 safety measures in place. As always it’s free to take part, and we’ll supply all the art materials and light refreshments too!

For safety reasons, we have to ask people to book their place in advance by emailing us on [email protected] or calling us on 02890 330920. Please note, places are limited. Full details of our safety measures are below.

Our first workshop will be on Saturday 7th August from 12pm to 1pm, inspired by our incredible Suzanne Lacy exhibition Across and In-Between. We’ll be using the colourful chalk that Suzanne and border residents spread out across the countryside along areas of the Border to create part of The Yellow Line.

Our next workshop on Saturday 21st August from 12pm to 1pm will take finger-painting to the next level! This is a perfect activity for artists of all ages, from exploring simple shapes and colours right up to drawing techniques and creating characters!

We have really missed welcoming families and Junior Artists into the gallery, and can’t wait to have you back! We are working very hard to keep all our visitors as safe as we can, so please help us by reading over our safety measures below. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Booking and COVID safety

Please book your place on workshops in advance by emailing us on [email protected] or calling us on 02890 330920 with the names and ages of everyone in your group who will attend. Please note, places are limited.

Each group must have at least one adult for every two children under 7 years of age.

On arrival in the gallery, please check in at Reception. Our FOH team will briefly outline our safety measures, and confirm your contact details for track and trace,

We’ll be operating in ‘bubbles’, where each family or group who book in will have their own art station, with all materials and equipment, including antiseptic wipes and hand sanitiser. We ask adults to keep their group together at their own station.

All workshop surfaces and materials will be wiped down with disinfectant before and after the workshop. Door handles, tables, the Junior Gallery area including the sofa, and counter surfaces in the gallery are also disinfected regularly throughout the day. The gallery is deep-cleaned weekly.

Our staff will wear masks, and we’ll ask all adults to do the same when they are moving around the gallery. Masks don’t need to be worn when seated at art stations.

Hand sanitiser is also available in multiple locations in the gallery. We also have disposable masks available from reception, for a suggested £1 donation.

Refreshments will be in individually wrapped packets and containers.

We have one bathroom available to visitors at present – it is fully accessible for wheelchair users and has baby-changing facilities.

If you or any member of your party have been feeling unwell, or displaying any symptoms of COVID-19, please do not enter the gallery.

Thank you!
