Jude Kelly In Conversation with Arts & Business NI

“Leadership is not a job. It is taking your values and leading forward, bringing people with you, stepping out in front, to make change happen. You can call this activism. You can call this leadership.” – Jude Kelly CBE

Arts & Business NI welcome Jude Kelly CBE to Belfast to share experiences from her incredible career. Jude is a successful theatre director and has founded a range of arts institutions including Battersea Arts Centre, the Leeds Playhouse and the international artists and community spaces METAL which are local catalysts for place-based change in Liverpool, Peterborough and Southend on Sea. In addition she has directed over 100 theatre and opera productions, is the recipient of two Olivier awards for theatre, a BASCA Gold Badge Award winner for contribution to music and a Southbank Award for her opera work.

Jude was the Artistic Director of Southbank Centre in London for 12 years from 2006- 2018, Europe’s largest Arts Institution and London’s 3rd biggest tourist attraction. While there she established the WOW Festival to celebrate the achievements of women and girls and confront gender injustice across the globe, bringing together artists, performers and speakers from a huge range of disciplines and backgrounds to spotlight women’s lives, their successes, and the obstacles against which they continue to struggle. Started in London in 2010 the Festival now takes place in 25 countries across 5 continents. In 2018 Jude established The WOW Foundation, an independent charity dedicated to building the WOW movement as a force for positive change.

In 2019 she co-founded SmartPurse, a financial toolkit to support women to become confident about money and protect themselves from financial vulnerability.

Jude will be interviewed by Sophie Hayles, Chief Executive of the Crescent Arts Centre and A&B NI Board Member.

This event is FREE to Arts & Business NI Members (£15 for non-members), please use the code ABNIM2 as a hidden ticket code when booking. Lunch will be provided.
