The ninth instalment of Golden Thread Gallery’s Collective Histories of Northern Irish Art Series, a project that forms a significant archive of Northern Irish Art from 1945 to the present.
Outside and Between, curated by Shan McAnena, examines how perceptions of artists from Northern Ireland are informed by the context in which their work is seen, categorised and discussed. Taking in to account not only subject matter, genre and materiality but also preconceptions about antecedents, practice and platform, the exhibition examines how artists relate to and are identified with Northern Ireland. Featuring artists including Michael Alcorn, St. Claire Allen, Betty Brown, Gerard Devlin, Philip Flanagan, Willie Heron,Tony Hill, Terry McAllister, Mark McGreevy, Rory Moore, Philip Mussen, Eddie Rafferty, Martin Wedge & Derek Wilson.
Shan McAnena is an art historian and curator, director of the The Naughton Gallery and the Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen’s.
