Homing pigeons are the original messengers and relayers and Colm Clarke has used pigeons as a point of inspiration for HOME AGAIN – a project in two parts. He is interested in the loft constructions that house the birds, the pigeon clubs as social spaces and the enormous distance these birds navigate in their flight back to captivity.

Colm Clarke is an artist based in Belfast creating actions, sonic scores and situations. Colm develops his work as a tactile strategy with collaboration, humour and interventions. Colm is a member of Queen Street Studios and Bbeyond performance collective. Colm would like to thank The National Trust at Divis & Black Mountain, the pigeon fanciers and clubs for LOFT. NICRAS and those who participated in ELSEWHERE.

About the Project

‘Radio Relay’ consisted of new artworks and projects co commissioned by 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary, and Golden Thread Gallery. From the world’s first radio broadcast during the Easter Rising to the first trench-radio experiments in the Battle of the Somme – radio technology has played an important role.  Between 17th and 19th June 2016, ‘Radio Relay’ tuned into the magic of radio with a schedule of new artworks and projects co commissioned by 14-18 NOW and Golden Thread Gallery.

The project featured new artworks and projects by Graham Fagen, Paddy Bloomer, Colm Clarke, Gareth Moore, Philip Hession, Sara Morrison and Mhairi Sutherland.
