Some New Year good news – our online Visual Arts Reading Round returns this Saturday, and we have some additional places available!

Led by Brian McAvera, celebrated playwright, art historian, critic and curator, within this themed reading round the primary emphasis will be on texts on the visual arts.  This will include essays, reviews and excerpts from books and it is intended that there will be a wide variety of texts, covering different art periods and different national attitudes to art history and art criticism. Depending on the composition of the Reading Group, we will incorporate academic texts, contemporary previews from galleries and so forth.

This group will be of particular interest to those of you who are working in, or are excited by, the visual arts.

Each week you will listen to different visual arts texts read by Brian which are then discussed at length and in depth. There is no preparatory reading or homework. Guided by Brian you will consider the text in detail, looking at tone, choice of words, viewpoint, the effect of a certain image or turn of phrase, etc.

If this sounds like something you would enjoy, please get involved! We use the Zoom platform to conduct the sessions, so please sign up to this in advance. The sessions will last one hour and will take place on Saturday mornings at 10.00am.
