Urban Projects

Urban Projects
An exhibition of works by Aisling O’Beirn, and  Marjetica Potrc

The Golden Thread Gallery, located on the edge of a very real sociale divide in North Belfast, proudly presents Urban Projects, an exhibition curated by Gail Prentice.

Urban Projects is a project, which focuses on aspects of the contemporary urban condition, primarily centered around Belfast. The exhibition features the works of two artists Aisling O’Beirn, and  Marjetica Potrc, whom have both attempted very different appraisals of contemporary urban living. Both artists’ have employed Belfast as a starting point, and then developed their investigations in two very different directions.

The micro in the case of Aisling O’Beirn whose ideas have been developed directly with the residents of the North Belfast, in particular those of the Ardoyne and Bone areas. The macro in the instance of Marjetica Potrc, who compares her observations of Belfast to trends, she has encountered through her global travels.

The Golden Thread Gallery’ Outreach Programme has been prominent from the beginning of this project, and will continue throughout its’ duration. Both artists have worked directly with the public in order to gather information and built upon research which can be seen through the exhibition and accompanying publication.

The Golden Thread Gallery would like to take this opportunity to thank Connor, Christine and Stevie, Keith Connolly of Tonic Design, Arts & Business and of course Aisling O’Beirn and Marjetica Potrc.
