Scopophobia

Scopophobia
Curated by Sarah McAvera, featuring artist: Keith Winter

Scopophobia is an exhibition investigating the nature of the city as a personality, like a vast robot, like a wild bushfire, countless faceless buildings tended to by immigrant workers, the advancement of density without apology, the imaginings of a future unknown.

With salutes to Piranesi, Malevich and the Constructivists Winter tussles with perspective, order and obedience to gravity. A construction is setup whereby the viewer is placed within a space but removed from a clear sense of scale, reference or the legibility of distance. A subtle political reference is a comment both on a global and a local sense of void and identity with having no nationality.

Keith Winter lives and works in Belfast. He has recently exhibited in Brisbane, New York and Bahrain.

Upcoming Shows include ‘Obituaries‘ group show in Brooklyn, New York (Nov 2009) and ‘The Red Hand‘ installation at the Arc 2009 Brisbane Biennial, Brisbane (2009).
