Not Just For The Birds!
The Golden Thread Gallery, the Greater Village Regeneration Trust and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions Migrant Support Unit are delighted to invite you and your friends to NOT JUST FOR THE BIRDS: an exhibition that uses history, visual art, stories and music to explore the cultural and industrial heritage of the Village and Sandy Row. There have been many changes in this area in the recent past and this project sets out to interpret this change creatively while keeping an eye on the future.
Artists Joanna Karolini, Phil Hession, Duncan Ross and Lydia Holmes met with groups and individuals who live or work in Sandy Row or the Village, gathering ideas, images and inspiration. Over 50 interviews were conducted with members of the community, both new and old. These interviews focused on a sense of shared history by exploring times when communities came together as well as exploring migration to and from the area.
The resulting exhibition is an exciting, intimate and insightful view of this part of our city.
