LOVELUSTLONGING

Lovelustinglongin
Curated by Peter Richards; featuring artist: Sue Williams

Come along and immerse yourself in the visual overload of ‘LoveLustLonging’, Sue Williams’ first solo exhibition in the North of Ireland in more than a decade. In this exhibition internationally renowned artist Sue Williams reflects the sense of a society perpetuating its own fear. The works deal with the saturation of mediation and the frailty of the self in response to a bombardment of images.

In her work, Sue Williams explores the nature of sexuality and our relationships with our own bodies and those of our lovers. Through work which combines drawing, painting and collage, Williams challenges the tradition of idealised nude painting, presenting the realities of the body, sexual identity and health. Work is often installed in a “notice-board” format, challenging artistic conventions.

About the artist:

Sue Williams is a prominent international artist with a recognised body of work and an exhibition history of both solo and group shows on five continents. Her autoethnographic practice, whether drawing or text, articulates the complexities of human relationships in a contemporary cultural context – whether visual or textual she demonstrates a vulnerability which invariably elicits an effective response. Williams continues to challenge and explore new concepts and multi-disciplinary art forms offering a direct response to the complex world of human frailty, drawing the viewer into a world of provocative sexual and emotional politics.
Williams is Professor of Fine Art in Swansea College of Art, University of Wales Trinity Saint David and is one of Wales’ leading contemporary female artists.
