Artist Talk – Iain Griffin

Join us for Iain Griffin’s lunchtime Artist Talk on Friday 15th from 1.00 – 1.30pm. The talk promises to offer insight into his solo exhibition ‘The Really Wild Show’ and will allow the audience to learn more about his practice.

Iain Griffin (b. Harrogate 1989) is a visual artist currently based in Belfast, N. Ireland. He graduated with First Class Honours in Sculpture from the National College of Art and Design Dublin in 2011. Iain has exhibited nationally and internationally in exhibitions including: N.O.W.H.E.R.E, Interview Room 11, Edinburgh (2016); In Flux, Brunswick Street Gallery, Melbourne (2016); and to Use as Capital, One Night Only, Oslo, Norway (2014). Sold Out was recently shortlisted for the 2016 edition of the EVA International Biennial, Limerick.

The talk will begin at 1.00 pm and last for approximately 30 minutes, followed by a short question and answer session for all who attend. Admission is free and complimentary tea / coffee will be available. No booking necessary, all welcome!



Porcelain Masterclass

Porcelain Masterclass with Ursula Burke at Golden Thread Gallery, Belfast

22 and 23 July
Time: 11am to 5pm, day one and two, with lunch break in between (lunch not provided).
Cost: £80 – includes all materials and firing of one piece.

Make your own piece of surrealist porcelain sculpture. Using the slip cast method, each participant will be encouraged to build a small piece of porcelain sculpture using plaster moulds made by participants. Strange and wonderful sculptures will be encouraged.

Day One – learn how to make two, three and four part plaster moulds. Objects to cast from will be provided.

Day Two – Learn how to slip cast using porcelain slip and plaster moulds made from day one in order to make a piece of porcelain sculpture.

Belfast School Children VIP’s at Tate Modern. 

On Thursday the 16 June, Tate Modern welcomes children from Belfast’s Bunscoil Bheann Mhadagáin as guests of honour for the exclusive preview of its new building.  School children from all across the UK will be the first people through the doors of The Switch House, a dramatic new building designed by internationally renowned architects British Library, this will be Britain’s most important new cultural building since the creation of the British Library in 1998.

The young VIP’s will be jetting off to London for a day to remember thanks to a nomination from the Golden Thread Gallery, Belfast. The Golden Thread Gallery, a Plus Tate members works to support the development of the visual arts across the province, by encouraging exchange and partnership.

Bunscoil Bheann Mhadagáin is Belfast’s newest Irish language schools and were nominated as cultural ambassadors for the city of Belfast. They will join a major one off day at the new Tate Modern called “Assembly” where they will meet other school children to exchange ideas, and have a fun packed creative day.

Déardaoin 16ú Meitheamh , cuirfidh an Tate Modern fáilte roimh pháistí ó Bhunscoil Bheann Mhadagáin ,Béal Feirste mar aíonna speisialta ag réamhbhlaiseadh príobháideach den fhoirgneamh nua. Páistí scoile a bheas ar na céad daoine trí na doirse den’Switch House‘ , foirgneamh nua suntasach dearadh na n- ailtírí clúiteacha Herzog agus de Meuron is ea é. Beidh an foirgneamh seo ar an fhoirgneamh is tábhachtaí ó thaobh cúrsaí cultúrtha dó sa Bhreatain ó tógadh an British Library in 1998.

Beidh na haíonna speisialta seo ag eitilt go Londain fá choinne lá ar leith mar gheall ar ainmniúcháin de chuid an Dánlann , Golden Thread i mBéal Feirste. Tá an Dánlann Golden Thread ina bhall de Plus Tate agus tugtar tacaíocht de fhorbairt na hamharcealaíona fud fad na tíre , trí pháirtnéireacht agus trí mhalartú smaointe a chothú.

Tá Bunscoil Bheann Mhadagáin lonnaithe i scoil úrnua agus iad ainmnithe mar ambassadóirí cultúir de Chathair Bhéal Feirste. Beidh siad mar chuid de lá ar leith ag an Tate Modern darbh ainm Assembly  áit a mbeidh siad ag bualadh le páistí scoile eile le smaointe a mhalartú agus lá iomlán cruthaitheach a bheas acu.
