Project
Space in September features:
PAVES
Opening:
6pm - 9pm, Thursday 3rd September Project Space Golden Thread Gallery
Poshya
Kakl, Anne Bean, Vlasta Delimar, Efi Ben-David, Sinead O'Donnell
On the 3rd September the Golden Thread Gallery will launch the Belfast
phase of the PAVES project: a collaborative journey that has already
taken place in London and Croatia.
Sinead
O'Donnell, as Belfast's PAVES
artist, will begin an evolving creative dialogue/exploration
in the Project Space in the Golden Thread Gallery on 3rd September
and will be joined on the 13th of September by Poshya Kakl, Anne
Bean, Vlasta Delimar and Efi Ben-David.
The
Project Space will serve as a base and workspace for the collective,
while they explore Belfast as a site. The artists will respond to
the city and to each other in many ways: sharing ideas, actions,
notations, drawings and all the things that inform their creative
process during their time in this city.
On
the 19th of September, between 1pm and 3pm, the artists will make
their presentation and invite the audience to enjoy conversations
with the artists about their process and approach.
Anne
Bean, the initiator of the PAVES
project, grew up in Zambia. She and has spent time in Iraq and
Croatia and has been struck by the different ways in which recent
political upheavals have directly or indirectly informed the work
of artists, particularly of certain women. The women in PAVES have
all used their bodies in their work to make strong, powerful and
passionate works, where the interplay of personal and political
meet and have vivid 'conversations.' Reflecting on how the intense,
wider political context inevitably sculpts artists' work, PAVES
is a year-long collaboration between the artists Poshya Kakl, Anne
Bean, Vlasta Delimar, Efi Ben-David and Sinead O'Donnell.
PAVES
is supported by the British Council's Creative Collaboration programme,
the Arts Council England and Form Associates.
