Scopophobia
is an exhibition investigating the nature of the city as a personality,
like a vast robot, like a wild bushfire, countless faceless buildings
tended to by immigrant workers, the advancement of density without
apology, the imaginings of a future unknown.
With
salutes to Piranesi, Malevich and the Constructivists Winter tussles
with perspective, order and obedience to gravity. A construction
is setup whereby the viewer is placed within a space but removed
from a clear sense of scale, reference or the legibility of distance.
A subtle political reference is a comment both on a global and a
local sense of void and identity with having no nationality.
Keith Winter lives and works in Belfast. He has recently exhibited
in Brisbane, New York and Bahrain.
