The
Double Image: Collective Histories of Northern Irish Art
29th
September - 7th November 2007
The
idea behind this particular exhibition was to discuss and question
the meanings which come from images, alongside the meanings which
run between images and the interplay of meaning in general. Dougal
McKenzie took inspiration from the writings of Alan Bullock and
chose to include a generous mix of both painting and photography
within the exhibition. Therefore, each of the works presented is
static in nature, although the image may allude to movement.
Although
the notion of photography versus painting is not a new one, the
exhibition attempts to engage the idea of image as a means of communication
and more specifically than this, works from Northern Ireland as
expressions of such communication. In this exhibition McKenzie has
curated the works of ten painters and ten photographers, who have
been working within Northern Ireland. This was the fourth instalment
in the Collective Histories series.
